THE IRONSIDES
In October of 2020 King was approached by Max Ramey, bassist and bandleader of SF Bay-Area band ‘The Ironsides’, to take part in creating an instrumental album of "Cinematic Psychedelic Soul" reminiscent of the great European film scores of the 1960's and early 70's. Ramey and he had collaborated previously in the All-Star soul supergroup 'The Sentiments'. For this project the band and he would co-write the music, and King would arrange the orchestra. The album being created with the help and support of Terry Cole and Colemine Records.

Soon the bi-coastal partnership was in 4th gear and this group had the bones of an album. The team of Producer/Bassist Max Ramey, Guitarist Joe Ramey, Guitarist James Payne, Drummer Dan Ford, and King clicked immediately. The 3000 miles that separated them was no match for their creative chemistry and collective vision. Next steps would be West Coast recording sessions with the best talent of the SF area, everything from large string and brass sections, to a harpist and an operatic soprano. All with King doing what he would normally do at a conductors podium, but this time via Zoom.

Though the road to completion took much longer than anyone could have anticipated - schedule conflicts, tours, Covid rates, and vinyl pressing plant delays all made themselves known, but as King puts it “In the end, this is one of the most creatively satisfying experiences of my career.”

‘Changing Light’ can be purchased on vinyl at your local record store, direct from
